According to a 2009 IPSOS Marketing study, nearly 75% of pet owners surveyed either did not know when their cats/dogs should be altered, or thought they had to wait until after 6 months.

Animal shelters overflow with unwanted litters of pups and kittens, many of which are born to animals that are later spayed.  If offered a discount for a spay package at the end of the puppy or kitten shot series, many more pet owners would opt to alter their pets prior to their first litter, thus also avoiding mammary gland cancers.

Veterinarians can educate their clients about the advantages of spaying before the first heat – – and in fact are the persons of choice to do it!
